Landscape lighting is a competitive market, but you can stand above the other businesses and avoid costly mistakes through our tried-and-tested, specialized training course. The Bright Beginnings Landscape Lighting Training Program is built on over 25 years of industry experience and is designed specifically for those getting started in the field. This program provides a step-by-step roadmap to help new professionals build confidence, master the fundamentals, and launch a successful landscape lighting business.

The Bright Beginnings Course is Built Around Two Core Module Types

Informational Modules

These steps give you the foundational knowledge you need to design, install, and service lighting systems professionally.

System & Checklist Modules

These steps are where we put everything you’ve learned to the test. These modules walk you through the exact step-by-step processes, checklists, and systems used to streamline jobs, avoid mistakes, and scale a profitable business.

Where most training ends at technical skills, Bright Beginnings gives you repeatable systems to run a smarter, more efficient business. These systems are what make this course different, and they’re exactly what will help you stand out in a crowded market.

Module 1: Introduction to the Bright Beginnings Course

We start off with a rundown of what the Bright Beginnings exterior lighting course has to offer you, from the difference in modules, lighting techniques, and estimates, to roadmaps and installations. Familiarize yourself with what’s to come so nothing catches you off guard.

Module 2: The 4 Essential Elements of a Lighting System

In this module, you'll discover the four core components that make up every successful landscape lighting system: the power source, wiring, fixtures, and connectors. Understanding how these elements work together is key to designing reliable, professional lighting installations that stand the test of time.

Module 3: Lighting Techniques and Design

Once you understand the basics, we go over the different techniques and design philosophies you can use to create simple or intricate lighting systems. You’ll be outlining and designing these yourself, so it’s important to get a lay of the land and create a custom layout based on the property.

Module 4: Understanding Lumens, Kelvins, Beam Angles & Voltage

There’s a lot of terminology in the lighting business, but this crash course will help you understand the most important elements and get you on track to memorizing what they mean, when they are used, and what makes them so useful to you.

Module 5: The Property Walkthrough (Process & Systems)

The first systems module, this is the checklist walkthrough. Learn how to create an effective property walkthrough process, map out systems as you go, and create the first steps of a design.

Module 6: Planning the Design

The design of your lighting system is unique to the location, as no two businesses or homes are the same. You’ve already mapped out the location, now you can determine the best setup for the new lighting system.

Module 7: Pricing for Profits

Learn how to confidently estimate landscape lighting projects using the Profit First Method, a simple, proven system that ensures every job is priced for real profit. This module walks you through how to break down project costs, set healthy margins, and build a business that pays you first while remaining financially strong and scalable.

Module 8: Pre-Installation Planning

You’ve created the designs, but putting them to practice is a different task. To ensure the installation goes smoothly, it’s best to run through a pre-installation planning routine so you know everything you need is already in order.

Module 9: Voltage & Load - 5 Key System Checkpoints

How much of an electrical load can your system withstand? Learn the five key system checkpoints to help you determine the voltage running through the system, the minimum and maximum load your system can handle, and how to ensure it never reaches that upper threshold.

Module 10: Installation Process

All the planning is complete, now it’s time to get to it. This is the installation phase, where you learn how to properly install the system you’ve planned. This is the most time-consuming part of the process, but also the most important.

Module 11: Post-Install Best Practices

Once you’ve installed the system, there are a few checks to run through to ensure everything is up to code and running correctly. We walk you through the post-installation best practices so nothing is left to chance.

Module 12: Routine Maintenance - Why It Matters & How to Do It

Every lighting system needs regular maintenance to ensure it runs smoothly. Your client would hate to have to pay for a fresh installation in the next few years, and maintenance is a great source of recurring revenue.

Module 13: Troubleshooting

If you encounter trouble while you are installing or maintaining the system, there are a few tried-and-true methods to troubleshoot the system and uncover the root cause.

Module 14: Marketing Your Lighting Business to Homeowners

People need to know you’re out there before they call on you for help. Create an effective marketing plan that ensures people see you, learn more about you, and call you with offers in no time.

Final Module: Recap & Certification

You’ve done it! This is the final module, where we go over the main points you’ve learned throughout the process and present you with your official lighting certification. The future awaits!
